DIKE, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — An investigation is underway after a chase ended with police shooting and killing a man on Highway 20 Sunday night.
The Iowa Division of Investigation says officers from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, and several other area law enforcement agencies were trying to stop a car being driven by a wanted man out of Waterloo.
The driver wouldn’t stop and led officers on a chase. During that chase, his car stopped working and stopped on the side of Highway 20.
The man got out of the car with a gun and began shooting at officers. Deputies with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper from ISP fired back.
The man was shot and officers tried to save him at the scene. He was taken to the hospital where he died.
No officers were hurt and those involved have been placed on leave.
