Wake for Canton police officer killed in car accident on way to work

STARK COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A wake will be held Monday evening for the Canton police officer who was killed in a car accident on the way to work last week.

On Nov. 10, Officer Dave Wolgamott died after a two crash at 6:53 a.m. in the 800 block of Cherry Ave. SE.

No other details on the accident have been released at this time.

Officer Wolgamott worked at the Canton Police Department for 19 years.

He was assigned to the patrol division where he worked in their jail.

Before coming to Canton, Officer Wolgamott also worked for the Lakemore, Strasburg, and Bolivar police departments.

In his free time, Officer Wolgamott, 47, of Strasburg, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending his children’s school events.

“His commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Canton earned him the respect of his fellow officers and the community he proudly served.

This is a tragic day for our department and for our community. We ask that everyone keep Officer Wolgamott’s family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers, and allow them time to grieve during this difficult time.”

A wake will be held at the church on Nov. 17 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. FOP services will be held at 4:45 p.m.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at New Pointe Community Church in Dover.
