Fashion Valley Mall San, Diego Active Shooter: Incident at Fashion Valley Mall — Avoid the Area

Police responded to an incident at the Fashion Valley Mall this evening after a reported theft inside the Macy’s store escalated when one or more people involved allegedly brandished a firearm.

According to early reports, Macy’s security confronted individuals suspected of stealing items. During the encounter, a firearm was displayed, but no shots were fired. The situation caused panic among shoppers inside the store.

Macy’s has been closed for the rest of the evening as officers secure the area. Multiple San Diego Police Department vehicles are positioned near the parking structure on the Macy’s side of the mall, close to the MTS trolley station, with lanes blocked off. Officers were seen entering the Macy’s building. The SDPD ABLE helicopter, which was overhead earlier, has since left the scene.

Shoppers coming out of Macy’s appeared shaken, with some running from the building. Traffic near the parking structure is congested as people attempt to leave.
