The Harrisburg Air National Guard Base conducted an active shooter drill on Saturday, briefly placing the installation under a temporary lockdown as part of the exercise, officials said. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Base leadership said the training was part of regularly scheduled readiness operations designed to evaluate emergency response protocols, communication channels, and coordinated actions between security personnel and on-base units.
During the drill, entry and exit points were secured, personnel were directed to shelter in designated areas, and response teams activated simulated threat procedures. Officials emphasized that at no point was there any actual danger to service members or the public.
“These exercises ensure that our Airmen are prepared to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a real emergency,” base officials said in a statement. “Readiness and safety remain our top priorities.”
Normal operations resumed shortly after the drill concluded, and the base reported no injuries or disruptions beyond the temporary lockdown period.
Community members and nearby residents were informed that the event was only a simulation, though officials acknowledged that increased activity around the base may have been noticeable during the exercise.
