Crime Stoppers doubles reward for information in fatal shooting during youth football game

WICHITA, Kan — Crime Stoppers of Wichita and Sedgwick County is doubling the reward for information in the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man during a youth football game last month.

Crime Stoppers announced Wednesday that the reward had been increased to $10,000. Police say Travon Stewart was selling concessions at Dr. Glen Dey Park on the evening of Thursday, October 23 when he was shot and killed.

“The Crime Stoppers Committee, which operates under the Wichita Metro Crime Commission, voted to raise the existing $5,000 reward by an additional $5,000,” Crime Stoppers said in a release. “Working in partnership with the Wichita Police Department, the increase aims to encourage additional tips and information from the public that could assist investigators in identifying and locating the suspect.”

“Crime Stoppers remains committed to supporting law enforcement and our community by providing anonymous ways for citizens to share critical information,” said Sharon Van Horn, executive director of the Wichita Metro Crime Commission. “We hope that by increasing the reward, someone with knowledge about this case will come forward and help bring closure to the victim’s family.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 316-267-2111 or by downloading the P3 tips app. If the information provided in the tip leads to a felony arrest, the tipster will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $10,000. \

Crime Stoppers said tips must be submitted through Crime Stoppers to be eligible for a reward.

Wichita police say a $5,000 reward is being offered for information in the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man during a youth football game last week.

The shooting happened at around 7 p.m. Thursday at Dr. Glen Dey Park near K-96 and Hillside. According to police, a detective working secondary employment heard gunshots from another area of the park. The detective responded and found Travon Stewart with gunshot wounds to his upper body. He died at a local hospital.

No arrests have been made. Wichita police announced the reward during a news conference Tuesday morning and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.

WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford said three people have come forward with tips, but police have not been able to identify the person responsible for shooting and killing Travon Stewart.
