Minneapolis ICE Shooting Sparks Nationwide Protests as Hundreds Rally in Salt Lake City to Honor Renee Good

Hundreds of miles from where it happened, the fatal shooting of Renee Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis is reverberating across the country, prompting protests and public outcry far beyond Minnesota.

On Thursday evening, hundreds of demonstrators gathered at Pioneer Park in downtown Salt Lake City, more than 1,200 miles away, to condemn the killing of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who had recently relocated to Minneapolis. The rally drew community members, immigrant-rights advocates, clergy, and local organizers who described the shooting as emblematic of broader concerns about federal immigration enforcement and use of force.

Participants at the Salt Lake City protest held signs calling for accountability, chanted slogans demanding an end to aggressive ICE operations, and observed moments of silence in Good’s memory. Speakers addressed the crowd with calls for transparency in the investigation and urged federal officials to release body-camera footage and other evidence related to the shooting.

Organizers said the demonstration was meant not only to honor Good’s life, but also to highlight what they view as a pattern of excessive force by federal immigration authorities. Many emphasized that Good was a mother and community member whose death has left a family grieving and raised urgent questions about when and how lethal force is used.

The Salt Lake City gathering was one of several solidarity protests held across the country following the Minneapolis shooting. Advocates said the turnout underscored how incidents involving federal officers can resonate nationally, particularly in cities with large immigrant communities or histories of tension with federal enforcement agencies.

The FBI is leading the investigation into the Minneapolis shooting, while protests and vigils continue to spread as communities demand answers, accountability, and changes to federal immigration enforcement practices.
