According to law-enforcement statements and multiple media reports, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents fired shots that wounded a man and a woman in Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood during a “targeted vehicle stop.” The injured individuals were later found several blocks away by Portland police, who provided emergency aid before transporting them to local hospitals; their conditions have not been publicly released.
Federal authorities claim the shooting occurred when the vehicle’s driver allegedly attempted to run over the agents after they identified themselves, prompting an agent to fire what the Department of Homeland Security described as a defensive shot. The vehicle then fled the scene with the passenger on board.
