An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after a confrontation Sunday afternoon near Southfield Road and Dix Highway, close to a 7 Brew Coffee location, according to local authorities.
Police said officers were dispatched to the area around 14800 Southfield Road following reports of an armed individual. When officers arrived, they encountered an adult man who was allegedly holding a box cutter.
Authorities said officers made repeated attempts to de-escalate the situation, issuing verbal commands and instructing the man to drop the weapon. Video from the scene shows officers continuing those efforts as the individual moved toward them.
Police said the man did not comply with commands and continued advancing while holding the blade. Officers then discharged their firearms, striking the suspect multiple times.
The man was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a medical facility for treatment. His condition has not been released. No officers were injured during the incident.
The area was secured while investigators processed the scene. As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the incident remains under active investigation. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
