MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead after her vehicle slid off an icy roadway and overturned into a body of water in Monroe Township, according to local authorities.
Emergency crews responded to the scene early Sunday after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a car submerged in water. First responders located the vehicle off the roadway and initiated rescue efforts, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates that icy road conditions may have contributed to the crash. Investigators believe the vehicle lost traction, left the roadway, and overturned before coming to rest in the water. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Police said weather conditions at the time of the incident were hazardous, and they are urging motorists to use caution when driving during freezing temperatures.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional details will be released as they become available.
