The South Bend community is mourning the tragic loss of 26-year-old Raejaun Jones, who was fatally shot Saturday night near the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Taylor Street.

According to the South Bend Police Department, officers were responding to an unrelated call just after 9 p.m. when they heard nearby gunfire. A ShotSpotter alert later confirmed a shooting in the 500 block of W. Indiana Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found Jones had been shot. Despite their efforts, including CPR performed on-site, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jones’ family has been notified of his sudden and heartbreaking passing. His autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Kalamazoo.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Police have not released information regarding any potential suspects.
