John Smith Accident: 84-year-old John Smith Killed in Police Pursuit Hit-and-Run in Stoughton

Authorities have released the identity of the 84-year-old Stoughton man who died in a tragic hit-and-run crash involving a fleeing driver over the weekend. The fatal collision took place on Saturday afternoon and has sparked a large-scale investigation involving multiple police agencies. Officials say the victim, who had called Stoughton home for years, was driving his sedan when it was struck by a pickup truck that was attempting to evade officers. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, the driver of the pickup truck — a man in his mid-20s from Brockton — is now facing a series of serious charges. Investigators allege he refused to stop for police, caused the deadly crash, and then fled on foot. Charges include motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death, along with several offenses tied to reckless driving, property damage, and evading law enforcement. Prosecutors say more charges could be filed as the investigation continues and new details surface.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

Authorities reported that the incident began when officers attempted to pull over the pickup truck after receiving reports that the vehicle was being driven dangerously. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and crossed into a neighboring community, with police in pursuit. That chase came to a violent end when the suspect’s truck slammed into the sedan at an intersection, leaving both vehicles heavily damaged. Emergency crews arrived within minutes, transporting the sedan’s driver and an elderly female passenger to the hospital. The woman, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized with injuries that officials say are still being evaluated.

In the chaotic moments following the crash, police say the suspect and another passenger in the pickup truck exited the vehicle and ran. Officers managed to detain the passenger shortly afterward. Law enforcement then launched a large search for the driver, using K-9 units and air support. After several hours, officers found and arrested him at a nearby public park. He was later transported and booked, and officials say he is expected to appear in court soon
