An Alpena man is dead and a police officer is recovering after an officer-involved shooting during a traffic stop for a reported stolen vehicle, according to Michigan State Police.
On December 22, officers conducted a traffic stop in Alpena Township where a man cut an Alpena officer with a knife, causing the officer to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect, MSP said.
The suspect, identified by MSP as a 35-year-old Alpena man, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The injured officer sustained a hand laceration and is receiving treatment.
The Michigan State Police Investigative Response Team and Crime Lab are investigating the scene.
