The Clay County community is mourning the tragic loss of Joseph Blurton, a resident of Wardell, Missouri, whose life was cut short in a devastating traffic accident on Thursday, December 18, 2025. According to the Arkansas State Police, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. on U.S. Highway 62 at the Black River Relief Bridge. Joseph Blurton was driving a 2022 Toyota Corolla westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the center lane and collided head-on with a 2022 Dodge Charger traveling eastbound, driven by Leana Stanfill of Paragould. Ms. Stanfill was injured in the collision and transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Tragically, both vehicles came to rest on the roadway when a third vehicle, an eastbound 2013 Nissan, struck the Corolla, compounding the severity of the accident. Authorities noted that the weather at the time was rainy, and the road conditions were wet, factors that may have contributed to the chain of events leading to the crash.
