The Evergreen community is mourning a profound and heartbreaking loss following a tragic house fire that claimed the lives of two young souls in the early morning hours of December 21, 2025. Demetrius Bradley, just 22 years old, and Damaya Bradley, 26, both of Evergreen, were taken far too soon in an incident that has left family, friends, and neighbors struggling to find words for the depth of their sorrow.
Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 12:49 a.m. to a structure fire on Newton Parkway. Despite swift response efforts, the fire proved fatal. When crews arrived on scene, Demetrius and Damaya were found inside the residence and were pronounced deceased at the scene. The Conecuh County Coroner’s Office responded and later confirmed their identities, notifying the family of the devastating loss.
Demetrius and Damaya were more than names in a report—they were beloved members of their community, each carrying dreams, laughter, and a future filled with promise. Their lives, though tragically brief, touched many. They were known to those close to them for their warmth, their presence, and the bonds they shared with family and friends. The suddenness of their passing has left an ache that words can scarcely capture.
In the wake of this tragedy, loved ones are remembering moments both big and small—the everyday conversations, shared plans, and quiet memories that now hold even greater meaning. These are the memories that will endure, carried forward by those who knew and loved them most. Though the fire has taken their physical presence, it cannot extinguish the love they gave or the impact they made during their time here.
The Conecuh County Coroner’s Office has assumed jurisdiction, and both Demetrius and Damaya will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for autopsies to determine the official cause and manner of death. The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the incident. At this time, no additional details have been released.
As the investigation continues, the community has come together in grief and solidarity, offering prayers, comfort, and support to the Bradley family during this unimaginably difficult time. In moments like these, Evergreen stands united—holding one another a little closer, sharing tears, and honoring lives lost far too soon.
