Joran van der Sloot Found Hanging in Cell in What Officials Call a Possible Suicide Attempt

Joran van der Sloot has reportedly attempted to take his own life in prison, and the details coming out of Peru are already raising eyebrows.

Guards at the Challapalca maximum-security prison found him hanging from a strip of blanket in his cell during morning rounds. He was rushed to the infirmary, stabilized, and is now under observation. Officials said the way he was found “suggested a possible suicide attempt.”

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

Van der Sloot is serving a 28-year sentence in Peru for the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores. In 2023, he finally admitted to killing 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, but because Aruba’s statute of limitations had run out, he was never charged for that crime.

He was, however, sentenced in the U.S. to 20 years for extortion and wire fraud related to Natalee’s case, and that sentence is running concurrently with his Peruvian sentence. Meaning he serves them at the same time, not back-to-back.

Now I want to be extremely clear: what I’m about to say is my opinion.

After following this case for years, the patterns, the lies, the manipulation, the way he moved through countries with zero accountability, I am not convinced that Stephany and Natalee were his only victims. He fits a behavioral pattern that raises serious questions about what else has never been uncovered.

Again, that is my opinion, not a statement of fact.

What is a fact is that this is a man who left multiple families shattered for two decades. And I’ll be blunt: if this had ended differently, the world would not be mourning him.

I’ll keep following updates as they come in.
