San Francisco Cable Car Accident: 14 People Injured

Several people were injured Monday after a San Francisco cable car came to an abrupt stop, according to officials with the San Francisco Fire Department.

Fire officials said 14 passengers were transported to a local hospital following the incident. Two people suffered minor trauma, while the remaining 12 reported aches and pains. No life-threatening injuries were reported.

The incident occurred on the California Street cable car line between Leavenworth Street and Hyde Street. Emergency crews responded to the scene at approximately 1351 California Street, where firefighters and police secured the area and assisted passengers.

Video from SKY7 showed a heavy presence of fire and police personnel as officials worked to investigate what caused the sudden stop. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area of California Street between Hyde and Leavenworth while emergency operations and the investigation continued.

In a statement shared on social media, the San Francisco Fire Department confirmed it was managing multiple patients and cautioned that traffic disruptions were expected in the area.

The cause of the abrupt stop has not yet been released. Officials said the incident remains under investigation, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
