A police investigation is underway in Cheltenham, in Melbourne’s southeast, after a man was found dead inside a home late Monday night following a fatal assault.
Emergency services were called to a Warrigal Road address shortly before 10 p.m. after reports that a man had been seriously assaulted. When officers arrived, the man was found unresponsive and was declared deceased at the scene. He has not yet been formally identified.
Victoria Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man was arrested at the address and remains in custody. Investigators allege the two men were known to each other, though the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed.
A crime scene has been established at the property, and Homicide Squad detectives are leading the investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. No further details have been released at this time.
