The St. Croix community is grieving the sudden death of Michael Springer, a well-known businessman and former Senate candidate, who was found unresponsive at his Estate Mahogany residence on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, at approximately 12:50 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a non-responsive male in the Flamboyant area of Estate Mahogany, Christiansted. Officers and Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene and found the individual showing no signs of life. He was pronounced dead at the residence.

Family members present at the scene identified the deceased as Michael Springer, 50 years old, authorities confirmed. Police stated that the cause of death has not yet been determined and remains pending the findings of the Office of the Medical Examiner. At this time, investigators have indicated that no foul play is suspected, though the investigation remains active.

The VIPD Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to the residence as part of standard protocol. Initially, officials said the individual’s identity could not be immediately confirmed, but it was later verified through next of kin.

Springer was widely recognized throughout St. Croix as a local businessman, operating a fast-food and bar establishment located across from Plaza Extra East, and as a political figure who sought to serve the community through public office. He ran multiple times for a seat in the U.S. Virgin Islands Legislature, representing the St. Croix District in several election cycles.

His unexpected passing has sent waves of sorrow across the island, with many remembering him for his visibility in the community, his dedication to his work, and his persistent engagement in local affairs.
