Authorities are investigating a double fatal shooting in Cahokia Heights after two people were found dead from gunshot wounds in separate residences.
The incident began when officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home, where they discovered 67-year-old Bruce A. Mason of Maryville, Illinois with an apparent gunshot wound. Mason was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis obtained a search warrant for a nearby residence. There, investigators found 44-year-old Laniya Joyce White of East St. Louis suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities stated that both deaths are believed to be connected and not random, and there is currently no threat to the public. However, the individual believed responsible for the shootings remains at large as of Sunday afternoon.
