At one point, pushed by a therapist, he defied expectations by standing longer than required, a moment loved ones recall as emblematic of his willpower and courage.

During his illness, James suffered multiple strokes due to blood clots, severely impacting his mobility. Yet, he continued to show his trademark positivity by acknowledging those around him with gestures such as raising his arm for a handshake or offering a peace sign small but powerful acts that comforted family and friends during an emotional time.
