One person was killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash near 63rd Street Beach late Thursday night, according to Chicago police.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Coast Guard Drive. Police said a man was driving southbound when his vehicle struck the median head-on. Following the impact, the car caught fire.
The driver, identified as Tom Durkin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed he was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
