Kerri Aherne Arrested: Tewksbury, Massachusetts Woman Charged in NYC Macy’s Stabbing

A 43-year-old woman from Massachusetts has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred inside Macy’s flagship Herald Square store in Manhattan on Thursday afternoon.

Police said officers were dispatched to the seventh floor of the Midtown department store at approximately 3:15 p.m. following reports of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, they found a 38-year-old woman from California suffering from multiple stab wounds to her back and a laceration to her right arm. The victim, who was shopping with her husband at the time, was attacked in a seventh-floor bathroom in what authorities described as a random incident.

The injured woman was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

The suspect was identified as Kerri Aherne, 43, of Massachusetts. Sources described Aherne as a homeless woman with a history of personal difficulties. She was taken into custody at the scene and later arrested in connection with the attack.

According to police, Aherne faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement, a Macy’s spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place today as the safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority. We kindly defer any further questions to the local authorities.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released additional details.
