The Elberton community is grieving the tragic and senseless loss of 17-year-old Dontavius Marable, a McDonald’s employee whose life was cut short during a fatal shooting on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The incident occurred at a McDonald’s restaurant in the city, leaving family, friends, and neighbors in shock and sorrow.
According to authorities, Dontavius was involved in a verbal altercation with a male acquaintance inside the restaurant lobby when the confrontation escalated, resulting in gunfire. He was found by officers with multiple gunshot wounds and, despite immediate first aid and advanced medical attention, later succumbed to his injuries at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Police have confirmed that a 15-year-old suspect has turned himself in and will face charges of murder, with additional charges possible as the investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) continues. Officials noted that Dontavius and the suspect were known to each other, making the tragedy all the more devastating for the community.
Dontavius is remembered as a bright, young individual with a promising future, loved by his family and respected by those who worked alongside him. Friends and neighbors are coming together to honor his memory, sharing stories of his kindness, energy, and warmth.
