Muskingum University and the North Ridgeville community are grieving the sudden death of Jeremy Michael, a sophomore student and member of the Muskingum Fighting Muskies football team, who passed away last night after collapsing while playing basketball with friends on campus.
University officials confirmed that Jeremy, a defensive lineman and two-year member of the football program, experienced a medical emergency while playing recreational basketball. Despite immediate assistance, he did not survive. He was widely known across campus for his dedication to athletics, his involvement in student life, and the kindness he showed to others.
In a statement, Muskingum University expressed deep sadness at the loss:
“Muskingum University is deeply saddened to announce the passing of sophomore defensive lineman Jeremy Michael. A two-year member of the football team, a brother in MACE, and a committed student assistant in Sports Communication, Jeremy’s presence touched many across our campus community. Jeremy, a graduate of North Ridgeville High School (Class of ’24), was remembered by the North Ridgeville Rangers Football Program as a gifted athlete and exceptional young man.
