Multiple people were injured Monday afternoon after a shooting on the campus of Kentucky State University (KSU), prompting a massive law-enforcement response and a campus-wide lockdown.
Frankfort Police say officers responded at approximately 3:35 p.m. to reports of an active aggressor on the university’s south campus, near the Young Hall area. When officers arrived, they located several victims and began securing the scene.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody. However, the campus remains on lockdown as police continue to clear buildings, search the surrounding area, and coordinate with university safety officials.
Early reports indicate that eight people were hurt, though officials have not yet released the extent of their injuries or whether any of the victims are students.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear acknowledged the situation shortly after police confirmed the suspect’s arrest, writing:
“We are aware of a reported shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.”
KSU officials have urged students and staff to continue sheltering in place until further notice and to follow instructions from campus police.
Law enforcement agencies including the Frankfort Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and additional emergency responders remain on-scene as the investigation continues.
Further updates are expected as authorities confirm additional details.
