Boston police are investigating a stabbing that occurred early Wednesday morning on the campus of Boston Medical Center, leaving a staff member seriously injured.

Authorities said they received a report at approximately 2 a.m. regarding a stabbing in the area of 850 Harrison Avenue, the main address for the hospital. According to police, the injured employee made their way to the hospital independently and was found to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, a Boston Medical Center spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place on hospital grounds and that the victim is a member of the hospital’s staff.
“The hospital is open and operating normally,” the spokesperson said. “Boston Medical Center takes incidents such as these very seriously, and the safety and well-being of our patients and staff are always our priority.”
Police reported that a suspect was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the hospital for evaluation. No additional information about the suspect or the circumstances leading up to the incident has been released.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine what led to the stabbing.
