A man is recovering after being shot twice and stabbed in what police believe was a targeted ambush in Riverwood, in Sydney’s south-west.
The incident unfolded late Sunday night, when residents reported hearing gunfire in a residential area of Riverwood. Police say the victim, despite his injuries, managed to take himself to a hospital, where he is now receiving treatment.
Detectives believe the man was ambushed by one or more attackers, though the motive remains under investigation. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers from the St George Police Area Command have since established a crime scene in Riverwood, cordoning off the area where the shots were fired. Forensic teams are combing the scene for evidence while investigators review CCTV footage and interview witnesses.
Police said no arrests have been made at this stage and urged anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward.
“This appears to be a targeted incident,” a police spokesperson said. “We are working to identify all parties involved and piece together the circumstances leading up to the attack.”
The investigation is ongoing.
