A man has died following a serious incident at Rayleigh Weir on Tuesday, prompting a major police response and the full closure of the A127 while officers carried out an investigation.

Essex Police said they were called after receiving concerns for the welfare of an individual in the area. Emergency services responded quickly, but the man was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene.
As part of standard procedure, police closed the A127 at Rayleigh Weir to conduct an investigation, leading to severe traffic delays throughout the morning and afternoon. Long queues developed on several major routes, and nearby roads — including The High Street and Rayleigh Road — experienced significant congestion. Some bus services were also affected by the disruption.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said:
“We know nearby routes are also impacted. We would ask motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the area where possible.”
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant camera footage to contact them.
“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, please get in contact with us. Please quote 0155 of Tuesday 9 December,” the spokesperson added.
No further details have been released due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
