York Regional Police are investigating after shots were fired outside First Markham Place, a busy shopping mall located on Highway 7 east of Woodbine Avenue, late Sunday night.
Police were called to the area around 11:30 p.m. after reports that a suspect fired multiple rounds toward a business in the plaza. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, and there is no immediate threat to the public. However, the motive behind the shooting and the identity of the suspect remain under investigation.
Shoppers and nearby residents can expect to see an increased police presence in and around the plaza as officers continue gathering evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses.
York Regional Police are urging the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.
