Four people were killed and several others injured following a serious multi-vehicle crash involving eight students from Manila High School on Friday evening, December 5, 2025.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the collision occurred around 6:54 p.m. on Highway 18, just east of Lake City. Lake City Mayor Cameron Tate confirmed that the crash involved three vehicles and led to the temporary closure of the highway. The road was cleared and reopened by 8:43 p.m.
Six students were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Manila High School later confirmed that two of its students were among those pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the victims have not yet been officially released by authorities.
Mayor Tate called the incident “devastating for our community,” noting that the crash happened east of the bridge on Highway 18, a stretch of road well-traveled by local families and students.
Community in Mourning
The tragedy has deeply shaken the Manila community. Champion Coffee, a local business in Manila, shared a message expressing the grief and heartbreak felt throughout the town:
“Our hearts are so heavy today for our town of Manila… Last night’s terrible accident has shaken our whole community… To every family, friend, and loved one affected, we are wrapping you in prayer. We are praying for comfort, strength, healing, and peace… May God hold each of you close today and in the days ahead.”
Schools, churches, and local organizations have also begun offering support to students and families affected by the crash.
Family of Student Shares Heartbreaking Update
Among those injured was Brady Curtwright, the son of Ashley and Brian Curtwright. His family shared that he was transported to a Memphis hospital shortly after the accident. According to his mother, Brady has shown no signs of brain function since his arrival.
She shared the following message, expressing both her pain and her faith as the family prepares for the final medical assessments under Tennessee’s Uniform Determination of Death Act:
“I have no words. Thank you for the love each one of you feel for my sweet baby boy… From the beginning, there has been no brain function. Tomorrow morning, we do my baby’s last test… Please, please, there is only one option and that’s a miracle. Please pray, and God’s will is God’s will.”
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the crash. The Arkansas State Police and local agencies continue to investigate.
As the Manila and Lake City communities mourn, many are gathering in prayer and support for the families who lost loved ones and for the students still recovering in the hospital.
