M42 Car Accident: Undisclosed Person Died, Police Incident on M42

Traffic came to a standstill on the M42 on Friday evening after police responded to a serious incident between Junctions 1 and 2. Emergency services were called to the scene after reports that an individual had taken their own life on the carriageway.

The motorway was fully closed in both directions between the M5 interchange and Junction 2 as police, paramedics, and traffic officers worked to manage the situation. Motorists already on the motorway were instructed to remain in their vehicles and await guidance from emergency personnel.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

Shortly after 6:40 p.m., authorities confirmed that trapped traffic had been released in both directions, though the closure remained in place while investigations continued.

National Highways issued multiple alerts urging drivers to avoid the area, stating:

“ The M42 is CLOSED in both directions between the M5 and J2 due to a police incident.”
“Avoid M42 Southbound between J1 & J2. Standstill traffic.”
The incident led to long delays, particularly around the Bournville area, with congestion stretching several miles.

Police have not yet released further information about the individual involved, but the motorway is expected to reopen once all emergency and recovery operations are complete.
