A quiet Long Island community is reeling after a devastating double homicide that left two longtime Plainedge residents — and well-known deli owners — dead following a violent series of attacks Thursday morning. Their son, identified by investigators as Veto, is believed to be responsible for both killings.

Mother Fatally Stabbed Near School District Campus
The tragedy began near the Plainedge Union Free School District campus on Hicksville Road, close to the former Brills location. According to early reports, Veto confronted his mother, Angela, and fatally stabbed her in the neck during a sudden and violent altercation.

Emergency crews responded within minutes, but Angela, a familiar and beloved figure in the Plainedge community, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Father Killed Minutes Later at A&A Deli
Following the first attack, investigators say Veto fled south along Hicksville Road and entered A&A Deli, the family’s well-known business. His father, Tony, who co-owned the deli with his wife, was inside at the time.
Authorities report that Veto stabbed his father multiple times in a second fatal assault. Tony, like his wife, was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving the Plainedge community stunned by the sudden loss of two long-established residents and business owners.
Massive Police Response at Adjacent Mini Market
The second crime triggered a major response at the nearby A&A Mediterranean Mini Market at 4240 Hicksville Road, where officers initially believed additional victims might be involved. The mini-market was fully evacuated as law enforcement units from multiple departments arrived and secured the area.

Patrol cars, detectives, and crime scene specialists filled the plaza as officers cleared the building, reviewed surveillance footage, and expanded the perimeter around both crime scenes.

Community Shaken by Loss of Well-Known Family
Angela and Tony were described by neighbors and longtime customers as hardworking, friendly, and deeply rooted in Plainedge. Their deli has served the community for years, becoming a familiar stop for locals and students alike.
The news of their deaths has left residents heartbroken, with many expressing disbelief that such violence could unfold in their typically peaceful neighborhood.
Investigation Active; Area to Remain Restricted
Police have urged residents to avoid the area while investigators continue gathering evidence and conducting interviews. Sections of Hicksville Road remain cordoned off, and additional updates are expected as detectives piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
No motive has yet been determined, and authorities emphasize that the investigation remains in its earliest stages.
