Man Shot Dead, Two Others Injured in Violent Series of Incidents Near NSW–Queensland Border – Tyalgum Road is closed for hours at Slippery Crossing. Crime scene.
Police are searching for answers after a deadly sequence of events unfolded in the tiny northern New South Wales community of Eungella, west of Murwillumbah, on Wednesday afternoon. One man is dead, another is recovering from a gunshot wound, and a third is injured after being struck by a car, as investigators work to determine how the incidents are connected.
Deadly Shooting on Rural Property
Emergency services were first called to a rural property in Eungella shortly before 1:30 p.m., following reports that two men—aged 41 and 38—had been shot.
According to police, the men were allegedly shot by another man who then attempted to flee the scene with a fourth person.
Paramedics treated the 41-year-old man, but he died at the property despite efforts to save him. The 38-year-old survivor later made his way to a hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. His condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Third Man Found Injured Nearby
Shortly after the shooting, police received a second call reporting that a 45-year-old man had been hit by a car nearby. Officers believe this incident is connected to the earlier violence.
The man was taken to the hospital and is currently being treated under police guard while authorities work to determine what role—if any—he may have played in the events at the property.
Manhunt for Fourth Individual
Police are now searching for a 37-year-old man who fled the area and is believed to have information critical to the investigation. Officers are urging him to come forward and are appealing to the public for any sightings or information.
Major Police Response, Road Closures
The response has included forensic teams, detectives, and the NSW Police Dog Squad, which spent Wednesday afternoon searching the property and surrounding bushland.
A major section of Tyalgum Road, from Kellys Road to Old Lismore Road, has been closed as police continue their operation. Residents have been asked to avoid the area and expect delays.
Investigation Ongoing
Detectives are now waiting to speak with the two surviving injured men to piece together how the shooting and the subsequent car incident unfolded.
Police say they are keeping an open mind as they examine possible motives, relationships between the individuals, and whether the events form part of a larger dispute.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information or dashcam footage or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact police immediately.
If you’re heading toward Tyalgum or Eungella, take the route through Crystal Creek and Chillingham to reach Tyalgum, then make your way back from there. The road is open as far as the Hare’ Farm at Eungella, though it’s unclear how much farther you can travel beyond that point.
You won’t be able to reach Murwillumbah, as the road is blocked further ahead.
Please take your time on the scenic route, drive carefully, and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
This remains a developing investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
