A Port St. Lucie police officer was shot Monday evening, prompting a massive law enforcement response in the Tradition area off Gatlin Boulevard.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the shooting occurred near the intersection of Tradition Parkway and Gatlin Boulevard, where a large number of officers and emergency vehicles quickly converged on the scene.
The injured officer was rushed to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital for emergency treatment. As of late Monday night, authorities have not released details about the officer’s condition or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police have also not confirmed whether a suspect has been identified or taken into custody.
Residents in the area reported seeing blocked roads, police helicopters, and officers setting up a perimeter as the investigation unfolded.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area while the investigation remains active.
