NY AG clears Syracuse police officer in fatal shooting of man with gun: The New York Attorney General’s Office determined that Officer Christopher Mazzotti will not face charges for the fatal shooting of Donnell Hogan, 42, who fired at officers during an encounter in May. The shooting occurred on May 13 inside the Moses Dewitt House apartment building after police received reports of gunfire. Mazzotti shot Hogan once in the head after he raised a gun from his wheelchair. The AG’s report stated that Mazzotti’s actions were justified under New York’s justification law, which allows officers to use deadly force when they believe it necessary to defend against deadly threats.

Man fatally shot at housing complex on Syracuse’s Near Westside, police say: A 40-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night outside the James Geddes Housing complex. The shooting occurred around 9:36 p.m., with police responding to a ShotSpotter alert. The victim was found with gunshot wounds and was unresponsive. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
