WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Four people were injured during a shooting at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in North Carolina on Saturday evening, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at a public holiday event in downtown Winston-Salem. Police say multiple shots were fired, sending attendees into panic and forcing organizers to temporarily halt the celebration.
Among the four injured, two were reported to have serious but non-life-threatening wounds, while the other two sustained minor injuries. All victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes as people ran for cover, with at least one gunman reportedly fleeing the scene before law enforcement arrived. Officers are currently reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the area for additional witnesses.
No arrests have been made yet. Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect(s) to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
Officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged the community to remain vigilant while enjoying holiday events safely.
