Kearns Shooting: Two Injured, Suspect Still on the Run as Police Urge Community Vigilance
KEARNS, Utah — A major police presence filled a Kearns neighborhood early Wednesday morning after a shooting left two people wounded and the suspect still unaccounted for.
According to Sgt. Aymee Race with the Unified Police Department, officers were called just before 1:30 a.m. to the area of 5600 West and Nautilus Drive near 5400 South after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they located a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were quickly transported for medical care. Police have not yet released their identities, the severity of their injuries, or their current conditions.
Investigators remained on scene for hours, canvassing the neighborhood, collecting shell casings, and reviewing home surveillance footage in hopes of identifying leads. Detectives also interviewed witnesses who reported waking up to the sound of multiple gunshots.
Authorities say the suspect fled the area before police arrived, and as of the latest update, no arrest has been made. Officers have not confirmed whether the shooting was random, targeted, or connected to gang activity.
Sgt. Race emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages and urged residents to stay alert, check their security cameras, and report any suspicious activity or information that could assist detectives.
The Unified Police Department is asking anyone with tips to contact them immediately.
