ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) – One person is dead, and another was sent to the hospital after a shooting in Rocky Mount early Wednesday morning, police said.
According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to a report of a shooting on the 1400 block of S. Franklin Street. When officers arrived on scene, police said they found two people who had been shot.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while EMS crews transported the second person to a nearby hospital for further treatment, police said.

The severity of the second gunshot victim’s injuries is unknown at this time.
“The Criminal Investigation Division of the Rocky Mount Police Department is currently conducting an active investigation into this incident,” police said in a Wednesday news release. “Additional details will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
