SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

The incident began around 11:00 a.m. when Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a woman wanted on a felony warrant. The stop occurred at the entrance of Sam Galloway Ford, located at 1800 Boy Scout Drive.

According to Sheriff Carmine Marceno, who briefed local media at the scene, the woman suddenly fled during the stop. As she attempted to escape, one deputy fired a single shot, striking the woman in the elbow.

Despite being wounded, the woman managed to drive herself to Lee Memorial Hospital, where she sought treatment. Hospital staff notified Fort Myers Police Department officers, who took her into custody upon learning she was wanted and involved in the incident.

Deputies report that the woman’s injury is non-life-threatening, and no law enforcement officers were hurt.

Authorities also confirmed that the woman has a long criminal record, with more than a dozen prior arrests spanning various charges.

The scene at Sam Galloway Ford is expected to be cleared within hours, according to Sheriff Marceno.

The State Attorney’s Office and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit have launched a joint investigation, which is standard protocol for deputy-involved shootings.

This is a developing story, and more updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
