At approximately 8 p.m. on November 18, officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Highway 82 East, near the Sonic Drive-Thru, after multiple callers reported gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they located two victims—a Black female and a Black male—both suffering from gunshot wounds.

The female victim was immediately transported to Delta Health in critical condition. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later airlifted to another medical facility for advanced treatment. Her current condition has not been released.

The male victim, identified as 17-year-old James Sutton, could not be saved. Despite emergency efforts, Sutton was pronounced deceased a short time after first responders reached the scene. His death has deeply shaken the community, leaving family, friends, and classmates grieving the sudden loss of a young life.

According to witnesses, the suspects were traveling in a dark-colored pickup truck, which fled the scene at a high rate of speed moments after the gunfire erupted. Investigators have been working throughout the night and into Wednesday, gathering physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

The Greenville Police Department says the investigation remains active and ongoing, with detectives following several leads as they work to identify those responsible for the deadly shooting.
