A tragic accident in northeast Salem on the evening of November 15 claimed the life of 56-year-old Quinn Webb, who died after colliding with construction equipment while riding his three-wheeled motorcycle.

Salem Police say the crash occurred around 8:38 p.m. on Hazelgreen Road NE, near 49th Avenue NE. According to authorities, a motorist reported seeing Webb approach an active construction zone where the roadway had been closed. Investigators say Webb bypassed a barricade blocking access to the area west of 49th Avenue and continued into the closed section of the road.
Inside the construction zone — which police confirmed was inactive and unattended at the time — Webb struck an excavator positioned at the site. He died at the scene from his injuries.
Officials say the crash remains under investigation as they work to determine the full sequence of events, including visibility conditions, road layout, and why Webb entered the restricted area. No final conclusions have been released.
The incident marks Salem’s ninth traffic-related fatality of 2025, underscoring ongoing concerns about roadway safety, particularly near construction areas.
