495 Accident: Multiple Injured, Major Crash Shuts Down I-495 North in Andover, Mass.

A serious multi-vehicle crash involving two tractor-trailers and a car forced the shutdown of Interstate 495 northbound at Route 133 on Monday evening, prompting a large emergency response and significant traffic delays during the rush-hour commute.

The Andover Fire Department confirmed that the crash included a rollover and resulted in multiple injuries. Five ambulances were requested for patient transport, including two individuals reported to have serious injuries. Others sustained minor injuries.

Highway Closed as Crews Work the Scene
Massachusetts State Police shut down all northbound lanes of I-495 at the crash site. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation reported additional lane closures at Exit 97 in neighboring Tewksbury, though it was not immediately clear whether that situation was directly connected to the Andover crash.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area as crews worked to stabilize vehicles, treat victims, and clear extensive debris left from the collision.

Unclear What Led to the Crash
Authorities have not yet released details about what caused the pileup. Investigators remained on scene into the evening, collecting evidence and assessing the damage.
