Two seriously injured in shooting at apartment building near Belleville

A shooting at an apartment building in unincorporated Belleville just before noon Saturday has sent two people to the hospital.

St. Clair County dispatch received a 911 call at 11:57 a.m. from someone reporting a disturbance at an apartment building in the 7700 block of Woodcliffe Drive, according to a Facebook post by Lt. James Hendricks of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.

“While gathering further details about the call, it was explained that several shots had been fired at the location, resulting in two victims suffering from gunshot wounds,” the release said.

“Officers from the Belleville Police Department responded to the area to assist and were on scene shortly after the initial emergency calls were placed. Both victims were transported to a local hospital in serious condition.”

Other people reported on social-media sites that they had driven through the neighborhood and seen the apartment building surrounded by yellow crime-scene tape and unmarked police vehicles.

Unmarked police vehicles were still parked in front of the building and a uniformed sheriff’s deputies were still stationed outside late into the afternoon.

Detectives with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department are investigating. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 618-825-2051 and speak with an investigator.
