Several members of the Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team and their coaches were injured Saturday afternoon after an SUV car and an activities bus collided at the intersection of Highway 75 and County Road C-80 in southern Plymouth County.

The crash occurred early in the afternoon as the team was returning home from a scrimmage in Dakota Dunes. The Sioux City Catholic Diocese confirmed that the Remsen St. Mary’s team was on board the bus at the time of the collision.
Emergency response was significant. At least five ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and Sioux City hospitals were placed on standby. Authorities said six people were injured, with some victims transported to hospitals in Sioux City and others taken to a medical facility in Sioux Falls. A helicopter was also seen landing near the crash site, though officials have not confirmed whether any patients were airlifted.
As of Saturday evening, Plymouth County officials had not released details on the conditions of those injured or the circumstances leading to the crash.
The Iowa 511 traffic map showed the southbound lanes of Highway 75 fully closed following the collision, with a detour in place for drivers traveling through the area.
Remsen St. Mary’s Schools shared a message on social media asking the community to pray for the students and coaches involved. The school announced that a rosary for the team would be held after the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday.
The Diocese of Sioux City said it is awaiting further information but believes several students sustained injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities are expected to release additional details as they become available.
