According to the New York City Police Department, officers were called to the prestigious Jesuit all-boys school on East 84th Street shortly after the teen was discovered outside the building with injuries consistent with a fall from height. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

The student, who had been waiting to see an administrator regarding a disciplinary matter, walked from the first floor to the fifth floor before the fall, police and sources said. He was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was initially listed in stable condition, but his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Authorities said the death is being investigated as an apparent suicide and is not considered suspicious.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school initiated a brief lockdown while first responders secured the area. The lockdown was lifted later in the afternoon once officials determined there was no ongoing threat to students or staff.

Regis High School has not released the student’s name, citing privacy for the family. In a statement, school administrators expressed profound sorrow and noted that counseling services are being made available to students, faculty, and staff.

“Our community is heartbroken by this tragedy,” the statement read. “We are praying for the student’s family and for all those affected by this devastating loss. We encourage students to seek support and lean on one another in the days ahead.”

Later in the day, a man wearing a clerical collar exited the building and told reporters only that “someone had an accident” and was “seriously injured.” A nearby resident said parents were notified that an incident had occurred and students were being dismissed early.

Regis High School, founded in 1914, is a tuition-free, merit-based Catholic institution that provides special consideration to applicants from families with financial need.

Police say no criminal activity is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing.
