Communities across Lancaster County are mourning the sudden and tragic death of Dr. Katherine “Kate” Gogela, a well-respected pediatrician and breastfeeding medicine specialist with Lincoln Pediatric Group. Authorities confirmed that Dr. Gogela passed away following a serious collision earlier today.

The Lancaster County Assessor/Register of Deeds office, along with many in the Omaha and Lincoln areas, expressed condolences and remembered Dr. Gogela as a physician who treated every child and parent with patience, empathy, and genuine concern.

Dr. Gogela joined Lincoln Pediatric Group in 2017, where she developed a strong reputation for her work in newborn care and breastfeeding medicine. Her colleagues have noted that her impact on young families was immeasurable, particularly her ability to support new parents during an emotionally vulnerable and formative time.

A Career Rooted in Service and Compassion
Dr. Gogela completed her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Creighton University before earning her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She went on to complete her Pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in 2015.

She was board certified by both the American Board of Pediatrics and the North American Board of Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine, and also held credentials as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

Before returning home to Nebraska, she served in multiple roles within Cincinnati Children’s Emergency Department, Urgent Care, and Outpatient Clinics. Upon moving back to Lincoln, she found her professional calling in newborn and breastfeeding medicine, a focus deeply influenced by her own experiences as a mother.
