The Vanderbilt LifeFlight community, colleagues, and loved ones are mourning the tragic loss of Allan Williams, RN, a Flight Nurse/Paramedic who died Saturday in a helicopter crash in Wilson County. The helicopter, Vanderbilt LifeFlight 1, went down in a field along the 7100 block of Cairo Bend Road at approximately 2 p.m.

Allan was aboard the helicopter with Andrew “Andy” Sikes, Critical Care Flight Paramedic, and a pilot, both of whom were seriously injured and are receiving treatment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The pilot’s name has not been released at the request of the family.
A native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Allan Williams served as a Flight Nurse in Air/Paramedic Event Medicine at Vanderbilt LifeFlight and was formerly Adjunct Faculty at Columbia State Community College. His career was marked by dedication, skill, and a deep commitment to caring for patients in their most critical moments.
Over the program’s 41-year history, Vanderbilt LifeFlight has completed more than 80,000 flights and 40,000 ground transports, saving countless lives. Allan’s colleagues remember him as kind, selfless, and courageous, someone who brought calm, expertise, and compassion to every situation. His presence provided comfort and hope to patients and their families, and his dedication inspired all who worked alongside him.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the crash. Additional details will be released as the investigation continues.
Gone far too soon, but forever remembered — Allan Williams’ life of service, bravery, and compassion will live on in the countless lives he touched. May he rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire all who knew him.
