Authorities say the tragic accident occurred just after 8:30 a.m. on Morton Street at the intersection with Seventh Avenue South. A 61-year-old driver in a black 2020 GMC Savana van with New Jersey plates was traveling westbound on the eastbound-only street when he struck Schoeck. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but despite efforts by medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY, GOD BLESS YOU

Schoeck’s fiancé, Ross Barlow, and their family are mourning the sudden loss. Carol, the aunt of Barlow, expressed her grief in a comment on a 1010 WINS TikTok post: “The woman killed is my nephew’s fiancé. We are all shocked and desperately saddened and in disbelief. Her name is Valerie. She was to be married in June. There are no words to describe the grief. She was an extraordinarily gorgeous young lady. Thank you for your prayers.”

The driver of the van remained at the scene following the collision. As of Friday, authorities had not filed any charges, and the investigation is ongoing.

Schoeck, remembered by colleagues and friends for her intelligence, ambition, and warmth, had built a promising career at Argot Partners, helping guide clients in complex financial decisions. Her death has left the Greenwich Village community and those who knew her in Massachusetts and New York reeling.

The incident has renewed concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, with officials reminding drivers to adhere to street signage and traffic laws, particularly on one-way streets.
