NorKam Secondary School in Kamloops was placed under lockdown Thursday afternoon after police responded to what is being described as an active incident involving a possible weapon on school grounds.

Witnesses reported seeing more than two dozen police vehicles arrive at the school, located on Tranquille Road, shortly after lockdown alarms began sounding. Several officers carrying long guns were seen entering the building as students and staff remained secured in classrooms.
The Kamloops RCMP has confirmed that officers are actively investigating an active shooter threat and have urged the public to avoid the area.
“This is an ongoing police situation,” officials said. “We are asking the community to stay clear of the school and to follow instructions from law enforcement. Please do not share unverified information online.”
No injuries have been confirmed at this time, and details regarding the nature of the threat remain limited. Police have not yet said whether a suspect has been located or if students are in immediate danger.
Parents and guardians are being asked not to go to the school, as the situation is still active. District officials say updates will be provided through official channels as soon as it is safe to do so.
The lockdown remains in place as officers continue to search and secure the building.
This is a developing story. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
