A celebratory day for Los Angeles Dodgers fans turned into chaos Monday afternoon after gunfire erupted during the team’s 2025 World Series victory parade in downtown Los Angeles.
According to early reports, Los Angeles Police Department officers and other law enforcement agencies were seen sprinting through dense crowds after a disturbance broke out near the main parade route. Witnesses say an altercation among a group of individuals quickly escalated, leading to multiple gunshots being fired.
Panic spread through the crowd as thousands of spectators fled in all directions. Several paradegoers described scenes of confusion and fear, with people taking cover behind barriers and vehicles as police moved in to secure the area.
“We were just cheering, and then we heard at least five or six shots,” said one witness. “Everyone started screaming and running. It was pure chaos.”
Authorities have not confirmed how many people were injured, but paramedics were seen attending to several individuals at the scene. It remains unclear whether any suspects have been taken into custody.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that officers responded to an “active situation” involving shots fired near the parade route and urged the public to avoid the downtown area while the investigation continues.
“This was meant to be a day of celebration for our city and our team,” LAPD Chief Dominic Choi said in a brief statement. “Unfortunately, an altercation led to violence that put many lives at risk. We are actively investigating and will hold those responsible accountable.”
City officials have since halted parade activities as law enforcement works to clear and secure the area. Several streets surrounding Grand Park and City Hall Plaza remain closed as investigators collect evidence and review surveillance footage.
The Dodgers organization released a statement expressing sadness over the incident and gratitude to first responders for their quick actions.
“We are heartbroken that today’s celebration was marred by violence. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we are cooperating with local authorities as they investigate,” the team said.
As of Monday evening, the number of injuries and the condition of victims had not been confirmed. Law enforcement continues to urge anyone with photos, videos, or information about the incident to contact the LAPD immediately.
